A 40-year-old man from Shurugwi went berserk and fatally assaulted his 13-year-old son for revealing his extramarital affair to his wife.
Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Joel Goko confirmed the incident which occurred on Wednesday last week at Plot 27 Edward Farm in Shurugwi at around 3pm when Chenjerai Mandiziva fatally assaulted his son, Takunda John Murahwa with a whip.
Insp Goko said Mandiziva’s wife Ms Bertha Mapiye who was Takunda’s stepmother enquired about his whereabouts and the boy informed her that his father had gone to see his girlfriend.
Insp Goko said Ms Mapiye went and confronted the girlfriend and the two had a heated argument. He said this angered Mandiziva who then took a whip and assaulted Takunda all over the body until he died.
“I can confirm that we are investigating a murder case where a 40-year-old male adult from Shurugwi fatally assaulted his 13-year-old son for telling his stepmother about his extramarital affair. The incident occurred on 11 November at Plot 27 Edward Farm,” he said.
Insp Goko used a stick to brutally assaulted his son until he fell unconscious. Takunda died instantly as a result of the assault.
Insp Goko said the matter was reported to the police leading to Mandiziva’s arrest.
“After committing the crime Mandiziva fled from the scene but was later arrested. He has since been charged with murder. Takunda’s body was taken to Shurugwi District Hospital mortuary for post-mortem. We advise the public to always resolve their disputes amicably than resorting to violence,” he said.
